Stanley Yelnats and his family had a long line of bad luck.  Stanley had been accused of taking a celeberty’s sneakers and was punished by being sent to a Camp Green Lake in the middle of the desert that monitored behavioral adjustments.  The goal for this camp was to dig holes to find a buried treasure that was left behind by a Texas outlaw named Kissin Kate Barlow.  Stanley makes friend but has become very close to a kid named Zero.  When Stanley’s friend Zero gets mad at the guard for making fun of him, he leaves the camp and Stanley goes out in search of him eventually finding him.  They plot a plan to dig up the treasure at the camp and to be safe they eat onions to protect themselves from the poisonous lizards.  Eventually Stanley is freed, but he endures many challenges throughout his time a Camp Green Lake.

Writing
The boys in the camp have nicknames: X-Ray, Armpit, Zero, Caveman, Squid, Magnet and Zig-Zag. Make a list of one of the following:
a) the parts of a car
b) parts of a television
c) pieces of clothing.
Describe one of the boys by using the parts you chose.
Example: Caveman tries to steer an even course, with engine idling most of the time. His hood of protection is the window he refuses to open. He fears the consequences should he touch the accelerator of road rage.
