Willy is a 10 year old boy who lives on a potato farm with his grandfather.  All through the story the grandfather seems sick and will not eat, get out of bed and poor Willy just does not know what to do.  Eventually Willy learns that his grandfather owes 10 years worth of taxes which adds up to about 500 dollars.  The only way Willy feels that he can help his grandfather keep the farm is to win the National Dogseld Race that is usually won by a legendary Indian man named Stone Fox.  Willy practice very hard and makes it to race day where he entails many challenges along the wall and his friend, pet, and dog Searchlight dies along the trail.  Did Willy win this race?  What happened to grandfather?
